#SWEDUASEAN was one of the most amazing event I’ve ever help organize! I have learned a lot from the beginning of the event prep till the very end of this big thing! Personally, I strongly believe that education and learning are crucial to sustainable development of our world. Education makes enormous impact on economic, cultural, social and personal development. And if we want education to be effective, we need to focus on the process of learning and to combine education with technology will completely change the way of learning.
Ultimately, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mike Michalec who invited me to be the part of making this event happened. It was my first time organizing the startup event and even more excited to be the co-MC on pitching day! This event completely changed the way I see the startup, it’s like a missing puzzle putting in place that helps me see the clarity definition of startup. The most valuable experience I gain is learning how to collaborate with the organizing team who are diverse from different profession. Big thanks to everyone in the team who dedicated their spare time after work to join the team meeting. Importantly, thanks to everyone who come to join us, participants, judges and mentors, it is such a great pleasure to connect with all of you and the continuity of valuable friendships. Until next time everyone! 🙂
What is Startup Weekend EDU Bangkok ASEAN?
SWEDUASEAN is a 3 days event that brings together designers, developers, entrepreneurs, and educators to do amazing things specifically for student related, education services and products. The event aimed at producing new ventures with solutions that improve the delivery of education. Each team will create the product from scratch and launch in 54 hours. There are diverse participants across ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Surprisingly, there was one young participant from Vietnam whom, for the first time, got to fly on the airplane! or couple of participant from upcountry in Thailand came to Bangkok for the first time! just to join our event and make the impact on education development. I think that was quite an accomplishment for us as an organizer to bridge the entrepreneurial startup spirit with youth and educator who wants to solve education problem and make it better.
What are the highlight?
The event kicked off on Friday evening with warm up networking then it was then time for the participants to deliver the 60 seconds elevator pitch, with over 20 ideas being pitched on areas ranging from exam preparation, culture studies, all the way through to services for tutors and attendance check for teachers. Once teams were formed, it was then time to start hacking! Continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation.
Big highlight of the event, a total of 10 wearied but fantastically passionate teams got up to pitch on Sunday evening. Each team were assessed by a panel of judges to decide on the top three prizes. The winning team was an innovative platform called Tudex, aims to create a tutor – student matching platform that considers location based information while also focusing on security by getting parents on board and notifying them about their children’s attendance.
