By now, I’ve been working for several months. Study and work is completely different. But I’m still pretty excited to get to learn new things everyday. It is who I am. A learner.
It was late and raining outside. I was pretty much exhausted and burnt out. I felt disengaged with my life. Everyday was packed with lots of meeting and countless numbers of coffee. This is not what I want for life. I desperate for a break, I need some fresh air, I mumbled.
I wrote to a friend at Mirror Foundation where I did volunteer program last year, asked if she had any one-week-program on the schedule. She wrote back in a second said there was a trip to south Laos in a week to build the school. “Do you know anything about construction? How to mix cement? How to build a building? We’re building a school.” Said she. I replied, I’m booking a ticket to Chiang Rai now. See you in the office!
This is my kind of holiday, teacher volunteer.
A week later, I landed in Chiang Rai. Made a call to a friend to pick me up at the airport. What funny was, they were all already at Chiang Khong! The border between Thailand and Laos, about an hour away from Chiang Rai city! I rushed to the bus station and caught the first bus in zero hour. Haha. I was already feeling alive again. Let’s the journey begin!
Crossing Mea Kong river to Huay Xai, Laos.
From Huay Xai, we drove a truck for another 2 hours to get to the school.
We are here! Kids!
My host was preparing dinner for me. She said to me to eat a lot then I would have lots of energy to work!
A group from the office was here a week before to preparing for the construction equipment. We spent 2 nights and 3 days in the school. The villagers came to help us build the school.
Some played and joined the activities with the children. I had a blast and my soul came to live again.
Good night for now everybody 🙂
